Spring Stationery Box
Welcome to Spring, Lovelie People 🙂
I'm sure we're all quite happy to see the green buds on the trees as well as the end of lockdown (especially now that we have the ability to enjoy some red wine again!).
As with a lot of others, this year has been a difficult one for us here at Caterham Co. We flew into 2020 with great plans for our new Paper Lovelies Stationery Box, expanding our stationery ranges into more store outlets, and designing a few new collections too. This all changed
when the fire nation attacked when the lockdown was announced at the end of March.
Like many online-based stores, we were forced to close our shop for a large portion of the year. If you're following us on social media (here's our Insta, if you're not 😉 ), you might also have seen that my house's roof was blown off in a what I can only describe as a freak storm. It's been a looong few month's, but we're in a new house and studio now, and I was so excited to get back into the studio and start designing September's Spring Stationery Box!
The creation of our Spring Stationery Box
As with all of our stationery, (and what sets us apart from other gift boxes), everything starts off with
coffee hand-drawn illustrations. This month's box theme being Spring, I was inspired to get back into the garden and growing painting some yummy veggies. Fresh vine tomatoes, peas, and baby carrots — oh my! Just add a sprinkling of fresh herbs and we're done.
I've added something new to this box as well; illustrated recipe cards. I held a poll over on our Instagram Stories (another reason to follow us) on which recipe you'd like to see and Banana Bread won.
Now, I actually have a love/hate relationship with food ol' banana bread… Back when I was in my late teens oh-so-many-years-ago my family had a surplus of bananas for a while. I can't for the life of me remember why! But what I do remember is that is resulted in me baking two loaves of banana bread every day for about six weeks — that's A LOT of banana bread!
It does mean that I got to experiment with many variations though. You can eat the same recipe only so many times before you need something new. I learnt that hands-down my favourite banana bread has oats and cinnamon in it — so, so good! This month's Illustrated Recipe Card is, therefore, a tropical Banana Oat Bread. (There's an added irony that while I was painting this gorgeous tropical scene, it was actually snowing outside! Thank you Karoo winters!)
Once I have all the illustrations and hand-lettering completed, I then go through the process of scanning high-res images of the artwork and digitising them; creating a form that I can then use to make our pretty paper goods and stationery.
We've got a very Spring-y selection of paper goods and stationery in this month's box (which you can check out here). One thing that we've been working on is ways for you to reuse your shipping box every month instead of just throwing it away. The brainstorming session for ways to recycle shipping boxes involved a lot of coffee, I can tell you! In the end, I decided that the box would be absolutely PERFECT for storing your seeds! So, we created these inserts to divide the space into a seed storage box. Help save my coffee budget and let me know of any other ideas you may have for reusing your shipping boxes!
In the spirit of planning ALL. THE. THINGS. we've got a selection of planner goodies in this month's box too — super-cute planner stickers that make me think of wine gums (yum), an A5 September calendar, weekly planner cards to organise your week (we make our planner cards just slightly smaller than A5 in size to fit perfectly into your binder planners), a spring planting calendar, a few gardening inspired bookmarks to use once the weather gets warmer and we're in the mood for lazing in the garden with a good book and drink on a hazy afternoon, illustrated seedling planter sticks to mark your seeds (they also double as adorable cake toppers if you're not planting!), and itty-bitty seed envelopes to share or store your bounty once the season is over!
We're so excited to share our Spring Stationery Box with you! Here's to warmer weather, afternoon braais, and fewer layers of clothing to wear. Happy September, Lovelies.
